CASE FINDING & TREATMENT

Adapted to China situation, the Leprosy Elimination Campaign (LEC) advocated by WHO was introduced into the country. With supports from WHO, LECs were repeatedly implemented in provinces like Yunnan, Guizhou, Sichuan and Hunan. Through the cooperative efforts of MOH, the Center and the leprosy workers to leprosy control, the detection rate of leprosy cases in the country decreased from 0.17/100,000 in 1994 to 0.12/100,000 in 2005. Since the introduction of multi-drug therapy (MDT) in China, a cumulative number of cases treated with MDT has reached to more than 70,000. Currently, 100% leprosy cases are covered by MDT treatment with a regular treatment rate of 95%.
