Technical Report of National Training Course on Leprosy
Control
(Yangzhou, 20-27 Nov. 2001)
The
National Training Course on Leprosy Control was held in
Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province from 20 to 27 November, 2001
under the support from NLR.
China is now carrying out its reform in institution structure
of disease control. the Center for Disease Control at
country, provincial and county levels will be set up by
the end of this year. There will be no specialized units
for leprosy control everywhere. All leprosy control units
will be incorporated in to the local Center for disease
Control. Leprosy health workers will be not only engage
in leprosy control, but also maybe engage in STI control.
So STI knowledge has been included as the part of contents
at the training course to meet the requirement of the
participants.
About 64 participants from 15 provinces all over China
attended the training course. They are actively engaged
in leprosy control and most of them come from nearby provinces
such as Zhejiang, Anhui, Shangdong, Guangdong, and Jiangsu
provinces.
The ten experts engaged in leprosy or STI control from
National Center gave the lectures to the participants.
The participants were all satisfied with experts' teaching.
Electrical teaching tools such as multimedia projector,
slide projector and projection instruments were used at
the training course. The teaching contents were the recent
development of leprosy control in the world, leprosy clinical
features and diagnosis, multi-drug therapy on leprosy,
disability prevention on leprosy, and the strategy of
leprosy control in China. In STI training, the contents
such epidemiology of STI in the world and China, The problems
and possible solutions to STI control in China, the features,
diagnosis and standard treatment for various venereal
diseases were taught at the training courses. The teachers
often give 5 minutes-discussion with the participants
about teaching contents before the end of the class. Many
participants studied very hard and asked many good questions.
The main teaching materials used at the training course
were "Handbook of Leprosy Control", which has
been published under the support of NLR and "STI
Training Book for STI Health Workers". At the end
of training course, a qualified examination on leprosy
and STI was conducted for all trainees. The type of examination
included medical term interpretation, single choice for
question, true and false choice for question and essay
questions. All trainees have passed the qualified examination.
An evaluation for the training effectiveness was also
carried out by the questionaire at the end of training
course. Most of the trainees considered that the contents
taught at the course were much helpful to their work in
the field and have improved their capability on leprosy
and STI control. Every participant is grateful to the
NLR for giving him/her an opportunity to study at the
training course.
