Leprosy Training Lecture was held in the Third Central South Region of China Conference on Dermatology

The Third Central South Region (Hainan、Guangdong、Guangxi、Hunan、Hubei and Henan) of China conference on Dermatology was held in Sanya City, Hainan Province from April 19 to 23, 2006. Invited by the Conference Administrative Committee, China-NLR Project Office sent Prof. Zhang Guocheng, Deputy Director of National Center for Leprosy Control, China CDC & Director of China-NLR Project, attended the conference and presented knowledge and skills on leprosy diagnosis and the differentiated diagnosis. Massive pictures of leprosy and other skin diseases demonstrated the characteristic of different types of leprosy and the difference from other skin diseases. His speech was welcomed by all participants. Prof. Zhu Xuejun made a high appraisal for the lecture. He emphasized that Prof. Zhang Guocheng’s presentation was very vivid and useful to improve the awareness of leprosy among dermatologists and will strengthen the case finding of leprosy in general health services.. During the discussion, many participants said that it was necessary to carry out such activity regularly in order to improve knowledge and skills on leprosy among dermatologists.

More than 220 participants attended the conference. They came from the medical colleges, Department of Dermatology of general hospitals and the institute for leprosy control and prevention in central and south provinces of China. After the training, they knew the 4 diagnosis criterion of leprosy and were willing to playing a role in leprosy case-finding.
