National Supervision Group visited Chenggu County etc., Shaanxi Province for China-NLR Project

In order to improve the quality and efficiency of China-NLR Project, China-NLR Project sent a supervision group (consists of Prof. Zhang Guocheng, Deputy Director General of NCLC, Dr. Yan Liangbin, Director of Department of Leprosy Control, NCLC, Dr. Yu Meiwen, Deputy Director of Department of Leprosy Control, NCLC) to Chenggu County and Hanzhong Leprosy hospital, Shaanxi Province to supervise the implementation of the project from April 26th to 29th, 2006. Chenggu County is one of five China-NLR Project Counties in China and part of POD project was implemented in Hanzhong Leprosy Hospital.

The project team of Shaanxi Province and Chenggu County presented the implementation and the outcome of the project to National Leprosy Supervision Group. At the same time, the supervision group reviewed all the documents including essential materials provided by provincial and county project office. During the field visit, the supervision group interviewed some key informants including one Deputy Director, Chenggu Bureau of Health, two leprosy workers, eight general health workers, seven People Affected by Leprosy (including 2 registered cases in Chenggu County) etc.

The team also went to Hanzhong Leprosy Hospital and visited more than 45 People Affected by Leprosy.

After the supervision, the team made the recommendations to the project area: 1) To improve the project management such as collecting essential materials related to NLR project, sort the materials based on different activities; 2) To strengthen the quality of POD service under the current situation; 3) To clarify the tasks and try to achieve them by the end of project. The team also made a conclusion that the project of integrating leprosy control service into general health services in Chenggu County was achieved and should be extent to whole province.
