On
September 24-28, 2011, the second workshop on Leprosy
Management Information System (LEPMIS) in China took
place in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The workshop was
organized by National Center for Leprosy Control, China
CDC (NCLC) and financially supported by Netherlands
Leprosy Relief. Ten participants from NCLC, Institute
of Dermatology, Chinese Academy of Medical Science and
experts from Zhejiang, Jiangxi, Shandong and Guangdong
provinces attended the workshop.
The major contents of the workshop were to (1) Identify
the table of essential field and contents in chronological
sequence based on individual patients and list of leprosy
patients; (2) Identify the chart of epidemiological
situation of leprosy based on time or locality; (3)
Draft standard patient¡¯s records including following
up records; (4) confirm the content of following up
for cured cases; and (5) develop exposure draft of evaluation
plan for LEPMIS in 2012. Prof. Zhang Guocheng, Deputy
Director General of Institute of Dermatology, Chinese
Academy of Medical Science (IOD) & the NCLC, participate
the workshop. He emphasized that LEPMIS will be one
of the most important contents for leprosy control programme
in the coming ten years and LEPMIS will monitor the
process leprosy control programme and provide evidence
for developing new strategies in future. Prof. Yan Liangbing,
Director of Department for Leprosy Control, and Prof.
Shen Jianping, a senior staff of NCLC, also participated
the workshop.
Facilitated by Dr Yu Meiwen, Leprosy Manager in NCLC,
the workshop was carried out through plenary meeting,
group working and section presentation. The essential
field and contents for individual cases, list of leprosy
patients, chart of epidemiological situation of leprosy
based on time of locality were firstly discussed. During
the discussion, the contents of flowing up for cured
cases were also confirmed. After discussed, the contents
were sent to program development. Secondly, the participants
were divided into three groups, i.e. group of standard
patient¡¯s records, group of evaluation plan for LEPMIS
in 2012 and group of program development. In order to
make the progress and succeed and the task achieved,
the achievement and plan for next day were reported
by the end of every day. During developing evaluation
plan, the objectives, target group, contents, methods
and detail evaluation lists were discussed through plenary
meeting. Based on the developed plan, the experts from
four provinces pre-evaluated their LEPMIS in order to
identify the score of excellent, good and qualified.
After revised, the plan was delivered to provinces officially
for recommendations.
After 4 days work, the workshop reached the task planed
at the beginning of workshop. The workshop was successful
which push the development of LEPMIS.
