Abstract:
OBJECTIVE: IN order to study on minimum effective dosages(MED) of rifampin (RFP) against M. leprae. METHODS: In this paper, we detected the MED of 21 strains of mycobacterium leprae to RFP by the mouse footpad technique. RESULTS: The results showed that the MED of 13 strains administered the RFP diet was 0.001%~¡Ü0.0001%, 8 of them were ¡Ü0.0001-0.0003%. The MED of 8 strains treated RFP using the gavage method was 2.5-5.0mg/Kg, 5 of them was 2.5mg/Kg.Among above-mentioned 13 strains, 5 were also treated by gavage in the meantime for comparison. When the dosage was <10mg/Kg, it has bacteriostatic effect on bacilli .The results also indicated that, the MED of domestic strains to RFP may be lower than that of abroad. CONCLUSION: The authors suggested that the dosage which was below 10mg/Kg should be set up , in order to found the lower degree RFP-resistant strains . In addition, the results must be made a concrete analysis and then the diagnosis of a drug-resistant strain would be decided. The determination of the RFP concentration in the sera of mice consists with that of abroad.
